How do you choose a densifier?
How do you choose a densifier?

A thickener is actually a concentration and dewatering device that achieves solid-liquid separation through gravitational sedimentation. It is highly suitable for applications in mineral processing plants, chemical plants, and other facilities where solid-liquid separation is required. The thickener plays a crucial role in the dry stacking of tailings. In particular, the unique design of certain thickeners is vital in controlling the entire tailings dry-stacking process—it not only enhances the dewatering efficiency of the entire process but also brings about certain economic benefits.
The thickener adopts a multi-cone design structure, which not only increases the underflow concentration but also significantly reduces the height of the tank. Typically, conventional thickeners can concentrate a slurry containing about 10% solids into an underflow slurry with a concentration of around 55%. In contrast, this thickener can boost the underflow concentration to over 65%, thereby effectively enhancing the dewatering efficiency of the dry tailings disposal process. The separated water can be returned to the thickener for reuse. This is of great significance for mining operations in water-scarce regions. Additionally, the thickener is equipped with inclined plates inside the tank, which effectively increase its settling area, prevent particles from floating to the surface, and ensure that the overflow water remains exceptionally clear.
Currently, thickening machines are often used in conjunction with other dewatering equipment in dry-stack tailings disposal processes—processes that have gained widespread trust and recognition in the mining industry in recent years. The equipment consists of a hydrocyclone concentrator, a thickener, and a multi-frequency dewatering screen. This process not only delivers remarkable dewatering performance but also requires relatively low equipment investment, features low operating costs, and is easy to manage, making it a cost-effective dry-stack tailings disposal solution.
Throughout the entire dry stacking process of tailings, the water contained in the tailings overflows from the thickener and is then returned to the thickener via a conveying pipeline for reuse. Therefore, the dry-stacking process for tailings that employs a thickener is relatively cost-effective.
Overall, as introduced above, we’ve gained a certain understanding of the importance of thickening machines in the dry stacking process of tailings. Not only do these machines effectively accelerate the entire tailings treatment process, but they also play a crucial role in protecting the surrounding environment and have become an essential guarantee for the green development of the entire mine.
