Xinhai Mining Machinery: Let’s talk about ways to extend the service life of hammer crushers.

Xinhai Mining Machinery Let’s talk about ways to extend the service life of hammer crushers.

The short application cycle of hammer crushers typically refers to the service life of the hammer heads—the three major consumable components: hammer heads, motor rotors, and grate bars. A hammer crusher primarily uses a combination of impact, shearing, and tearing mechanisms to reduce large chunks into smaller fragments. In stone-on-stone or stone-on-iron crushing processes, the crushed material tends to wear unevenly on certain parts. If the hammer head is made from counterfeit or substandard materials, its service life will be significantly shortened. Under normal conditions, the service life of a standard hammer head ranges from 4 to 6 months; however, if the material is particularly hard or the crusher is operated under harsh conditions, the hammer head may fail within as little as two weeks—or even sooner. The service lives of grate bars and motor rotors are slightly longer than those of hammer heads. Thus, analysis reveals that hammer head damage mainly results from collisions and friction during the material-crushing process. By understanding the primary causes of this damage, effective preventive measures can be taken. These preventive measures should focus on three key aspects: pre-operation preparation, operational procedures during work, and post-operation maintenance and care.

Xinhai Mining Machinery Preparations before startup

  1. Ensure that the equipment is in good condition—for example, check whether the drill bit wear-resistant lining has any damage, whether the anchor bolts and components are loose, and whether the connections between structural components are sound. If you detect any loose parts, tighten them immediately.

  2. Check whether the lubricant at the equipment’s operating location is insufficient. If oil leakage or low oil level is detected, add lubricant and make necessary repairs.

  3. Before operating the crusher equipment, it is also necessary to ensure that there are no steel blocks or other non-crushable materials remaining inside the crushing chamber, and to keep the crushing chamber clean.

Xinhai Mining Machinery: Common Operational Issues During Actual Operation

  1. When selecting materials, if the strength exceeds the applicable range for hammer crushers, it will accelerate drill bit wear.

  2. Small-sized equipment can be fed manually, while medium- and large-sized hammer crushers require a vibrating feeder for uniform material feeding.

  3. Before putting machinery and equipment into production, ensure they are properly debugged and operating smoothly to confirm that every component functions normally.

  4. If you hear any unusual noises during crushing—such as impact sounds or metallic clanging—immediately shut down the machine and inspect the internal cavity. Resume production only after identifying and resolving the fault.

  5. The size of the raw material blocks must remain within the specified range at the feed inlet of the hammer crusher.

  6. The amount of ash fed into the crusher must not exceed the equipment’s maximum processing capacity; otherwise, it could lead to overloaded operation and damage to machine components.

  7. The allocation of equipment workload is effective, preventing long-term overwork and fatigue.

  8. If the temperature inside the crusher becomes excessively high, shut down the machine to investigate the cause of the overheating—especially in areas where rolling bearings are located, as temperatures exceeding 70°C can be problematic.

Xinhai Mining Machinery : Maintenance, repair, and servicing after shutdown

  1. After shutting down the machine, inspect the crusher to ensure that all parts and components are intact and that none are missing or damaged.

  2. Pay attention to cleaning the site during operations, especially delicate components such as rolling bearings. Remove any dirt or grime from the internal structures, and be sure to apply lubricant to lubrication points.

  3. When replacing wear-prone components such as drill bits, never use a hammer or specialized tools to strike them directly. This could cause injury during the installation and removal process. Additionally, if the rolling bearings on either side of the motor rotor are damaged, you must replace both bearings or thoroughly clean and then replace only the damaged one. Never neglect this step simply for the sake of convenience.

  4. When storing spare parts and other consumable components, avoid placing them in dry, clean areas. Also, be sure to apply oil and rust-preventive oil to their surfaces to prevent rusting.
